What is Travtail?

At Travtail, we enable our customers to get access to daily essentials instantly or in less than 10 minutes. Our two main products are Travtail Intelligent Vending Machines and Travtail Marketplace (TravMart). TravMart enables anyone to start a convenience retail business without owning a physical store, warehouse or fulfillment center. All TravMart sellers (including those with existing physical convenience stores) must use our SKU pricing guidelines - exceptions will be granted to those that make their own products.

If you sell certain items (age restricted items etc.) via TravMart, you may be required to have a mini-warehouse or some other commercial location to ensure compliance with local laws.

We are a small brand with an innovative product, how do we sell on Travtail?

Small and large brands have several ways to sell their products via Travtail. Brands can create seller accounts via TravMart and sell directly to customers nearby, give vending machine owners and TravMart sellers incentives to sell their products (reduced pricing, free inventory etc.), pay for product placement and advertising, and more. Brands can currently only partner with us by paying for product placements in our vending machines, listing directly on TravMart or sponsoring a pilot in locations of interest. For future product releases, brands will have a lot more ways to partner with us and will be able to sell products directly to neareby customers using our local delivery networks.

How do I sign up?

How will you know when I need new products?

All vending machine owners and TravMart sellers will source and replenish the products themselves but you can also get wholesale discounts from our partners or buy products directly from us (we can automatically ship you products when your inventory is low). We are constantly analyzing each store to identify potential stockouts, high turnover items and several other data points, and will give you several tools to prevent stockouts. We will give you access to several tools to plan for stockouts and manage your inventory.

Do I need a seller's permit to sell on Travtail?

No, seller's permits are not needed to sell on Travtail. As a third-party seller in our marketplace, you are responsible for getting the appropriate permits and/or licenses if needed. Depending on your state, what you sell, how frequently you sell etc., you may need a seller's permit and/or certain licenses. Seller’s permits are usually free. We will provide you with tools that can help you determine if you need a permit or license - you can also use these tools to manage your permits or licenses. Per marketplace facilitator laws, we may be able to remit sales tax on your behalf in certain states.

How will I receive products?

All vending machine owners and TravMart sellers will source and replenish the products themselves but you can also get wholesale discounts from our partners or buy products directly from us (we can automatically ship you products when your inventory is low). We will provide you with several tools to make sure you don't run out of stock.

How much money can I make?

You can make $200-$10000/month. Average sellers can make $200-$500/machine a month selling products. Top sellers can make $600-$1000/machine a month selling products. If you sell high value products or buy the bigger stores, you can make up to $10K a month.

If you are selling via TravMart, your potential revenue is unlimited but depends on several factors (your unit price, location, level of competition, exclusivity of product, your ratings/reviews etc.).

How many vending machines can I have?

You can have as many vending machines as you need. If your short term rental property, rideshare, apartment complex, hotel or any other location gets a lot of traffic, we recommend putting our stores in multiple locations - we have stores of different sizes and shapes to accomodate the unique needs of each location. All stores are completely self-service - put the store anywhere and continue with your normal activities.

Is it possible that the inventory shown in your mobile app isn't the same as the inventory in the machine? What happens if someone buys something and it turns out not to be physically available?

Our vending machines are designed such that only the products and units available in the physical vending machines can be purchased in our mobile application. We also track available units in real-time - a product will immediately not be available for purchase when the on-hand units are sold. When products are sold out, we immediately notify the vending machine owner and make it unpurchasable.

What if someone accidentally grabs 2 items but paid for just 1 item? What happens if the customer puts the second item back?

We account for these types of edge scenarios - customer selects one item and picks 2, customer selects two items and picks 1, customer's credit card is no longer active, customer takes one or more items and puts them back etc.

What if a customer puts an item in there that doesn’t belong or in the wrong section?

If a customer puts items in the wrong section or puts an item that was never in the store, we will notify the store owner to place the item back in the right compartment or remove the item, and charge or penalize the customer as needed. Note that for most models, only the compartments with the product that the customer selects opens up. However, we know exactly where the item is and will charge any other customer that picks the item.

What if a customer misunderstands and pays for one item but thinks they paid for all the items they grabbed?

In this case, the customer will be notified that they will be charged for all the items they grabbed. If the customer proceeds with the transaction, they will get charged. If they return the items (including putting the items in the wrong compartments), they will not be charged.

6-10% commission sounds incredibly high

6-10% is on the lower end of the commissions charged by other markeplace platforms. In you are selling via Travtail Intelligent Vending Machines, the retail price for your products can be 2-10x the wholesale price and still be very competitive. If you are selling via TravMart, we use a single storefront and standard prices in each city to make sure we remain competitive in that location. You can use your own delivery fleet and charge standard delivery fees or use our delivery network. In certain states, we can't take commissions on alcohol and/or tobacco sales - we will charge a higher monthly commerce software subscription fee in lieu of sales commmission. Note that all sellers will have access to age verification tools to sell age restricted items.

What if a customer damages other products?

If a customer damages the product and it is reported by the store owner with evidence, we will charge the customer. For outdoor locations, our vending machines have anti-theft features and we also offer theft, loss, and damage insurance.

How do you handle defective/damaged products?

W will investigate any reported product defects/damages and penalize the store owners based on our terms of service.

How do you handle the vending machine malfunctioning and not allowing the customer to grab what they paid for?

We (and the vending machine owner) have the ability to remotely troubleshoot the vending machine. If the vending machine still refuses to work after troubleshooting, we will send a repair partner to the vending machine location.

How do you handle vending machine owners or TravMart sellers who try to cheat their customers, sell expired or illegal items etc.?

We will investigate any reported illegal product sales or product defects/damages, and penalized the seller based on our terms of service. Customers will be fully refunded for damaged or defective products.

What types of products can I sell?

In general, you can sell any product. As part of our onboarding, we will give you access to our product ideas training - this training will give you insights into high demand products based on where, when and how you plan to sell your products. To suggest a new product offering, send us a message via the contact us page or send an email to contact@travtail.com. Customers can suggest new products within our app.

The items I bought are damaged or expired, how do I request for refund?

Take a picture of the damaged, expired, or defective product and submit a refund request in the receipts section of your account – select the specific transaction and click “request for a refund”. We will immediately credit your account with a refund for you to purchase the same product or other products. If you paid a delivery fee, that fee will be waived on your next purchase. We may contact you about your refund request if the seller disagrees with your request for a refund.

The items I bought were not delivered, how do I file a complaint and get a refund?

Submit a refund request in the receipts section of your account – select the specific transaction and click “request for a refund”. We will immediately credit your account with a refund for you to purchase the same product or other products. If you paid a delivery fee, that fee will be waived on your next purchase. We may contact you about your refund request if the seller disagrees with your request for a refund.

How soon will the items I ordered on TravMart be delivered?

If you are at a location with a vending machine, you have instant access to your product. If you ordered via TravMart (nearby sellers), you order will be delivered in less than 10 minutes (order to destination arrival time). If your products are delivered in more 10 minutes, we promise to give you a 5% discount on your next order – this discount will be automatically applied to your account.

I need to cancel my order.

In general, you can cancel whenever you want. Some sellers have restrictions – you may be charged a small delivery fee (maximum of $5) if your order is already on the way and you cancel. If the wrong product is delivered or there was something else wrong with your delivery, gather some evidence (pictures etc.) and select “contact customer service” in the receipts section of our mobile application.

I had a bad experience with the vending machine or the person that delivered my items

Contact our customer service team at customerservice@travtail.com or select “contact customer service” in the receipts section of our mobile application to chat with us about a specific transaction.

I was charged the wrong price or for the wrong product

Gather some evidence (pictures etc.) and select “contact customer service” or “request for a refund” in the receipts section of our mobile application.

Can I get discounts or points for my past purchases?

Yes - the more you buy, the more points you get. You can use your points towards future purchases.
